well I was going to. Eventually. I came up with it last night at midnight. THE OLD WOMAN IS LA LLORONA CLEARLY. No actually that makes no sense because she’s all about drowning people.

BD ALSO WHY IS INDIAN RAPUNZEL’S LONG HAIR BLACK, shouldnt her hair still be magic gold and then black when it’s cut because that’s her non!magic color. Me and Jhenne-bean were discussing this last night since I was going to color your sketchy for kicks and giggles but would have given the long hair the magic gold color since it’s imbued with magic and she was like “Black hair was not a deal breaker, flynn never said anything about climbing the golden stair like in the source material” and I was like “Well it was supposed to be freaky glowing hair and he did call her blondie so idk…”

But then Jhenne said it might exotify her if her hair was gold and she was brown and Indian which I can see but I GUESS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS.

Before I color. Is what I am saying. 8’D

MY THOUGHTS ON HAIR COLOR are that it stays black, with a blue-ish sheen as true black hair is wont to have in natural light. The reason is because once her hair is cut, instead of changing color, it frizzes and curls instantly. Her long hair was perfectly smooth and straight because the mass of it put enough weight on the curls to straighten them naturally, which is actually how hair behaves! And then the Dramatic Haircut happens and her head is Frizz City. So thanks to my BFF for giving me the idea by complaining about how she has to straighten her short hair every day or otherwise her Indian heritage takes over and makes her a racebent Little Orphan Annie :D

As for the glowing effect, I haven’t given that much thought to the color of magic, haha. IT COULD STILL GLOW WITH GOLD THREADS I GUESS?

If you were to ask me what color hair a #TangledInIndia Rapunzel should have, I’d say “black”. But I drew my Rapnuzel with dark brown hair because I wanted the (black) ink of its outline to retain some visibility. The color lightens as the hair gets longer because I wanted to break up the picture’s space by having the shape of her hair act as a backing for the central images of her story (a length of hair poured out of a high tower; a distant scatter of rising lights) and I needed to bring down the value range so that those images didn’t stand out more than the figure of Rapunzel herself. Thus: brown hair.

(However, while I couldn’t find any solid answers in my research, my biggest Indian Rapunzel’s Hair Art Choice Dilemma was trying to decide whether or not it should be braided.)

^^^ My main concern too.

With drawing hair that’s supposed to read as black and wanting to outline, I usually end up using Adobe Illustrator’s CYMK “True Black” as the base color, and what I consider to be ~real Black~ (#000000) as an outline. M-azing mentioned including that blue sheen that often comes with srsly black hair, which would help break up the potential monotony/strand differentiating problem.

TL;DR: Ideally I would go with black, but dark brown is always a viable option too. vOv
