into this wilde abyss: Michael Dante DiMartino, creator of the critically acclaimed Avatar…

stelmarias:

Michael Dante DiMartino, creator of the critically acclaimed Avatar series, announced Wednesday that the second season of Nickelodeon’s most anticipated show of 2013, Legend of Korra, will feature the network’s first openly gay character, confirming hopes within fan circles for a wider representation of LGBT youth in a children’s program. DiMartino and co-creator Mike Konietzko hope this development will promote inclusion of society’s unspoken minority groups in kid’s shows, introducing the idea of equality and respect early in a child’s life.

“After serious thought and contemplation, we realized we had a responsibility as creators to provide role models for kids who don’t see themselves on screens enough, if at all,” DiMartino said in an exclusive interview.

DiMartino and Konietzko have flirted with the idea for years since the success of Avatar, but Nickelodeon’s higher-ups have never given the green light until last year, when production of Korra’s second season officially began. “We’re very excited for the debut of this character. It’s something we’ve put a lot of time and effort into for a very long time, and to see it really come to life is really very rewarding,” Konietzko revealed. “I just hope the fans are as pleased with our work as we are.”

These creators are certainly not new to the introduction of unexplored and often controversial themes in youth media. The Avatar world built in their series features a cast entirely made of non-white characters, pulling cultures and ethnicities from China to Mesoamerica, one of the first and certainly the most successful Western cartoons to do so.

When asked for more details about the upcoming season, both men wouldn’t budge. “Spoilers!” Bryan Konietzko said, laughing. But they did reveal a romantic plotline would be introduced for their debut character. The question of whether the show’s lead, Korra, an up-and-coming young Avatar, would be involved was quickly dismissed, but not denied, so perhaps there’s hope for popular fan theories.

Legend of Korra’s new season will premiere on April 13th, 9:00 AM Pacific Standard Time, with voice talents Janet Varney, David Faustino, P. J. Byrne, and Seychelle Gabriel.

God they are gonna fuck this up

They are gonna fuck this up big time

Stop killing my vibe. I pray to the toon gods that this works out awesomely and not bad and everything is bubbles and peach gum. This could be a big step in cartons for kids, opening up a gate way of BETTER things to come in kid shows. If LoK gets the go ahead, maybe in a few years we’ll see Adventure time, a show that handles sexism, gender issues, family issues, and a host of other things pretty damn well, will get a knock at it. Pleasssee let this not be terrible.

mY FIRST RESPONSE WAS THIS^^

My theory as to who Amon is…

bubblesofrinia:

This theory came to me immediately after watching the Legend of Korra episode “The Revelation” when Amon held that rally.

image

He said that he lived on a farm. His family was taken away.
I remembered the episode, Zuko Alone, and the boy on the farm, named Lee, who had his older brother taken away by the Fire Nation, I believe?

He hated Zuko as soon as he found out he was a fire bender, much less the prince of the Fire Nation, and didn’t bother to think about how kind Zuko had been.

image

It didn’t take much to get this boy to hate Zuko, you know? He wanted to learn how to sword fight, and he didn’t seem to care about bending ( even other elements ) either.

While we only know his brother was taken away, we have no clue what became of the rest of the family after Zuko left.

image

The only issues with this theory that have seem to come up is how old he must be. About 60-70 something? Zuko is now 87, and back then he was a teenager…

But we know how awesome Uncle Iroh was, and he was an elder man himself. As well as the council members of the White Lotus.

image

Don’t you underestimate the old people.

Guess we’ll have to wait until next week to get more hints about Amon, huh?

+++EDIT+++

Another thing.
The Equalist movement is because they feel as though the people with the ability to bend an element are oppressive.

Lee’s village was entirely oppressed by the Fire Nation. Everyone was scared of them.
Sounds kind of familiar… doesn’t it?

…

you know what, this would have been pretty cool.

Avatar: Legend of Beyoncé

Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when Kim Kardashian attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements could stop her. But when the world needed her most, she vanished.

A hundred years have passed and my husband, Chris Brown and I discovered the new Avatar, a fierce Firebender, named Beyonce. And although her firebending skills were amazing, she’s got a lot to learn before she’s ready to slay anyone.

But I believe.. Beyonce runs the world.

I was literally waiting for this since the H&M thing aired.

chris brown tho?
