It was once known as Mass Communications, but I suppose the department didn’t feel like the title did enough justice to the content because the coursework doesn’t really study mass communications itself. I study the effects of mass communications. I look at how information is represented and transmitted through different media and how that representational process shapes different peoples conceptions of social institutions (like government or journalism)."
